Sunil Gavaskar did not hold back after India suffered a 24-run defeat to West Indies in the fourth T20I, pointing out glaring flaws in the run chase. Replying to a massive target of 247, the hosts could only manage 223, leveling the series at two games apiece ahead of the final showdown.
Gavaskar specifically criticized Abhishek Sharma for a subpar outing and noted that several other batters failed to capitalize after a brisk opening knock from Sanju Samson.
The former captain stressed that a team boasting back-to-back T20 World Cup titles must display far better control and accountability on favorable batting tracks. Keemo Paul wrecked the Indian batting lineup with five wickets, while the young Indian bowling attack took heavy punishment.
Gavaskar observed that the inexperienced bowlers need to experience getting hit in order to develop, contrasting their struggles with the disciplined aggression shown by West Indies players during the series.
