I have experienced racism a thousand times - Lamine Yamal

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal revealed in a Movistar broadcast that he has dealt with racist treatment roughly a thousand times throughout his career. The 19-year-old explained that such behavior often occurs indirectly, noting that people frequently make prejudice-laden remarks or gestures without conscious awareness of their offense.

He stated that being identified as Black does not disturb him, though intent matters, and insisted he avoids reacting with fury toward paying match spectators who attempt to insult him.

His remarks follow notable episodes of discrimination, such as the hostility directed at him alongside fellow teammates during an October 2024 El Clasico fixture at the Bernabeu. Government findings from the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia identified Yamal alongside Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Jr as Spain's leading victims of digital racial attacks over the concluding quarter of 2025.

The winger previously aided his national squad in securing a World Cup championship in July.
