MLB.com recently evaluated left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal and how his historic three-year peak from 2024 through 2026 might project into his 30s during upcoming free agency. Statistical analysts reviewed comparable players who debuted in or after 1969 and maintained an ERA+ of 150 or better across at least 450 innings between ages 27 and 29.
Eleven historical comparables emerged, featuring pitchers like Cristopher Sánchez, Gerrit Cole, and Chris Sale, alongside legendary stars such as Greg Maddux, Roger Clemens, and Justin Verlander. Researchers categorized these past aces into five groups based on their production during their thirties to understand what potential suitors might expect from Skubal.
