How promotion, relegation and knockouts work in Nations League

Thomas Tuchel leads his squad into a pivotal Nations League fixture against the Czech Republic, where a victory would significantly bolster England's prospects of securing a quarter-final berth. While Portugal has already clinched a spot in the knockout stages, other groups remain tightly contested, with nations like Spain, France, Italy, and the Netherlands vying for advancement as the group phase nears its conclusion.

The competition structure for the next cycle will undergo a transition, resulting in the elimination of League D and the implementation of three expanded leagues. Consequently, all current League D participants are slated for promotion, while relegation protocols for League C will be suspended for this term.
