How Ohio State’s Oregon disaster is historically bad for Buckeyes

Ohio State's College Football Playoff aspirations have effectively collapsed following a decisive home defeat to Oregon, a result that marks the program's third loss of the season. This setback places the Buckeyes in their worst finish since the 2011 campaign, a period previously led by an interim coach, and has left head coach Ryan Day facing intense scrutiny regarding his job security.
The game turned decisively against the hosts after they trailed 14-0 in the opening quarter, a deficit Oregon extended by scoring 38 consecutive points. The loss was compounded by an injury to quarterback Julian Sayin, further dimming the team's prospects.
With only four games remaining on the schedule, the Buckeyes are now in unfamiliar territory, having been booed by their own supporters as they fell behind by double digits in the second half.
