Following a solid preseason showing featuring one goal and two assists across three games, nineteen-year-old centre Braeden Cootes has been reassigned by the Vancouver Canucks to Abbotsford. During his final junior season, Cootes notched sixty-three points over forty-five games in the WHL and added another twenty-three points during twenty playoff appearances for the Prince Albert Raiders.
The young forward will now transition to professional competition in the AHL, where he is anticipated to vie for prominent top-six minutes and special-teams responsibilities rather than filling a constrained fourth-line role at the NHL level. This path mirrors previous organizational approaches, such as Bo Horvat's rookie campaign during the 2014-15 season when he averaged twelve minutes and fifteen seconds of ice time across sixty-eight matches before eventually rising to team captain.
