Horse Tracks: ‘Just a nasty wake-up call’

The Kansas City Chiefs delivered a lopsided 31-10 defeat to the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football to begin the 2026 campaign. Patrick Mahomes sparked the home squad at Arrowhead Stadium with 184 passing yards, two scores through the air, and an early 15-yard rushing touchdown in the opening frame.

Denver struggled significantly across all phases, failing to bring down Mahomes for a single sack and finishing with fewer than 200 total yards on offense.

The contest highlighted major issues for Denver's offense during Davis Webb's first outing directing play-calling responsibilities over Sean Payton. Payton criticized the unbalanced approach afterward, pointing to an overabundance of pass attempts and an insufficient ground attack.

Following the blowout divisional setback, quarterback Bo Nix also expressed frustration over the unit's deficient showing and Webb's rocky debut as coordinator.
