Heroes, zeros from Yankees’ Game 1 rout of Red Sox: Austin Wells did it all

The New York Yankees opened their American League wild-card series with a commanding 9-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on September 29, 2026. Pitcher Cam Schlittler led the charge by throwing six and a third shutout innings while recording ten strikeouts, stifling the Boston lineup to just two hits.

Offensively, Austin Wells fueled the effort with a pair of hits, a run scored, and an RBI single that brought home George Lombard Jr. in the second inning.

Ben Rice also contributed to the performance, while a seven-run surge across the seventh and eighth frames allowed New York to secure the blowout without needing closer David Bednar.
