The Detroit Lions secured a 31-24 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, driven by standout performances from Jahmyr Gibbs and Jared Goff. Gibbs accumulated 99 rushing yards and two touchdowns on twenty carries, alongside seven receptions for 65 yards and the decisive score.
Goff contributed cleanly through the air, completing 25 of 32 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns without committing a turnover, while orchestrating the quick response needed after New York briefly knotted the score at 24-24.
Conversely, the New York offensive front struggled immensely against Detroit's pass rush, permitting five sacks of quarterback Geno Smith. Edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson brought down Smith during the contest, and left tackle Olu Fashanu yielded two and a half sacks in addition to a penalty.
The defensive unit for New York also faltered by surrendering 381 total yards after limiting their previous two opponents to under 200 yards apiece. Reflecting on the missed opportunity, tight end Jeremy Ruckert noted that his squad believes they could easily hold a 3-0 record at this stage.
