Navy Midshipmen quarterback Jackson Gutierrez orchestrated a dramatic late-game surge to lead his team to a 34-26 victory over Tulsa on Saturday. Down 26-14 in the third quarter, Gutierrez engineered a 20-point, 20-minute comeback, rushing for 232 yards—the second-highest total by an FBS player this season—and scoring four touchdowns, including three on the ground.
His performance included a standout 56-yard touchdown run after a creative escape from the Tulsa defense, showcasing both athleticism and improvisation. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Navy, which had struggled to regain its form after a strong 2024-2025 campaign.
Tulsa’s early lead came from an unconventional play, where quarterback Baylor Hayes’ lateral pass to Oran Singleton Jr. led to a tipped ball recovered by David Wells Jr.
in the end zone. However, Navy’s defense stifled Tulsa’s momentum in the second half, limiting the Golden Hurricanes to two field goals after a series of fumbles and turnovers had threatened to widen the gap further.
Gutierrez’s clutch performance not only secured the victory but also marked the most rushing yards by a quarterback since Jayden Daniels’ 234-yard effort in 2023, solidifying his role as a key playmaker for Navy’s resurgence.
