The Green Bay Packers worked out former first-round defensive lineman Mazi Smith on Monday, adding depth to a defensive line that has faced significant roster turnover. Smith, the 26th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, played 43 games (20 starts) across three teams—Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets—before being released by Miami last week.
His tenure with the Cowboys ended after Kenny Clark was acquired in a trade, and he was later dealt to the Jets before being cut down to the practice squad and released. The Packers, currently thin at defensive line, have seen key players like Nazir Stackhouse claimed by the Titans and Jaden Crumedy poached by the Houston Texans, while injuries have sidelined Javon Hargrave, Jonathan Ford, and Warren Brinson.
With only four interior defensive linemen on the active roster, Smith’s presence could provide much-needed competition and experience as the team navigates roster constraints ahead of Week 7.
