Gray sacked by Hibs after six league games

Hibernian have dismissed head coach David Gray following a 1-0 home defeat against Kilmarnock, concluding his twelve-year association with the Edinburgh side just six matches into the Scottish Premiership season. The result marked Hibs' sixth consecutive league loss at home dating back to the previous campaign, leaving them sitting ninth with only six points.

Assistant coaches Liam Craig and Craig Samson have likewise departed, leaving John Potter to take temporary charge ahead of an upcoming home fixture against Aberdeen. Executive chairman Ian Gordon stated that the board felt compelled to act because of the recent slump in form and performances, despite acknowledging the coach's immense contribution and work ethic.

Gray originally joined the squad as a right-back, making 177 outings before hanging up his boots in 2021, most memorably heading an injury-time winner past Rangers at Hampden in the 2016 Scottish Cup final to snap a 114-year title drought. After three stints as caretaker, he officially took over from Nick Montgomery in May 2024, steering the team to a third-place finish despite winning only one of his opening 15 league matches, followed by a fifth-place spot the next term.

Both years featured narrow play-off eliminations from the Conference League qualifiers, concluding his permanent tenure with an overall managerial record of 43 victories, 29 draws, and 35 defeats across 107 fixtures.
