NAGOYA, Japan — India struck gold in the women’s 4x400m relay at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday, with Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi Chaudhary and Vithya Ramraj combining to win the final at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
The Indian quartet clocked 3:29.69 to take the gold medal, finishing ahead of Bahrain, who won silver in 3:30.21. China claimed bronze with a time of 3:31.02.
The victory delivered India's first athletics gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and added another major highlight to a strong campaign for the Indian track and field team.
Vithya Ramraj entered the final after winning bronze in the women's 400m hurdles on Day 10, where her 54.75-second performance also broke the Indian national record that had stood since 1984. Prachi Chaudhary had also won bronze in the individual 400m earlier in the Games.
The relay gold also adds to India's recent success in the event at these Games. The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team had won silver earlier in the competition, clocking 3:14.46.
For India, the women's 4x400m triumph provides another athletics gold on a day packed with track and field finals, further strengthening the country's medal campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
