Indian skipper Shubman Gill rewrote the record books during the second One Day International against the West Indies in Guwahati by registering the quickest double century in the history of ODI cricket, achieving the milestone in just 117 deliveries. In doing so, he eclipsed the previous benchmark held by fellow teammate Ishan Kishan, who required 126 balls for his double hundred against Bangladesh back in 2022.
Gill also joined an exclusive group as only the second batter to accomplish a double century during a run chase, following Glenn Maxwell, and became just the second player after Rohit Sharma to accumulate multiple double hundreds in the format. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma reached a major individual milestone during the match by becoming the third Indian to complete 12,000 runs in ODI cricket, accomplishing the feat in 282 innings to stand as the second-fastest batter to reach that landmark behind Virat Kohli.
