The New York Giants made a dramatic in-game decision Sunday, inserting backup quarterback J.J. McCarthy into the lineup after the New Orleans Saints built a commanding 34-10 lead.
The move came following Jameis Winston’s second interception of the game, which New Orleans converted into a touchdown to extend their advantage. McCarthy, who had previously entered the contest for a single snap in the first half, took over as the starter but struggled on his first drive, falling victim to another interception—this time by Saints cornerback Martin Emerson, who had also recorded one of Winston’s two turnovers earlier in the game.
The Giants had led 10-0 at halftime, but the Saints dominated the second half, leaving questions about the long-term future of Winston’s role in the offense under head coach John Harbaugh.
