Following a season-ending torn ACL sustained by star pass rusher Brian Burns, the Giants have moved to reinforce their defense by signing veteran edge defender Jihad Ward. Ward makes his return to New York by being poached straight off the Minnesota practice squad without having appeared in a game for them during the initial three weeks of the campaign.
Having previously spent a pair of campaigns with the Giants, alongside stints under coordinator Dennard Wilson in Tennessee and coach John Harbaugh in Baltimore, the newcomer brings deep familiarity with established defensive schemes. This background could accelerate his readiness to contribute immediately to a depleted unit.
Last season, Ward accumulated 31 tackles alongside 22 quarterback hits and five sacks through 17 appearances, which included 12 starts.
