Mercedes driver George Russell reflected on the emotional weight behind his 2025 Singapore Grand Prix victory, revealing personal challenges that shaped the weekend. In an interview with Austrian broadcaster ORF Sport, Russell acknowledged that his triumph—his second win of the year—came amid significant off-track pressures, describing his mind as 'quite busy' during the race.
The victory marked a rare bright spot for Russell, who had struggled at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in previous seasons, including a last-lap crash in 2023 and a Sprint crash in 2026 that left him ninth in the race. His 2026 campaign has been overshadowed by bad luck, including engine failures, and a fierce title battle with teammate Kimi Räikkönen, who leads the standings by 102 points after eight wins to Russell’s three.
With Räikkönen now just one race away from securing the championship, Russell’s path to a title defense hinges on a strong performance in Austin, where Räikkönen could clinch the crown regardless of Russell’s result.
