South Florida’s explosive offense dominated Kent State in a 29-2 rout, marking one of the most lopsided non-conference matchups of the season. The Bulls’ defense forced a rare two-point lead for the Golden Flashes early, but a game-changing play by defensive end C.
J. Hicks turned the tide.
After a fumbled quarterback sneak at the 1-yard line, Hicks scooped up the loose ball and sprinted 99 yards for a touchdown, sparking a 29-0 offensive surge. Kent State’s struggles extended beyond the scoreboard, as they managed just two points—the first time an FBS team has done so since 2020—and failed on all four fourth-down attempts while committing costly turnovers.
Meanwhile, South Florida’s offense, which had been stagnant in the first half, finally broke through late in the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by backup quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, followed by a clutch drive from starter Michael Van Buren Jr.
