Frustrated Red Wings fans in Detroit only benefit Rangers in road win

Detroit fans made their displeasure known during the home opener at Little Caesars Arena on Friday, October 2, 2026, directing heavy booing at Dylan Larkin after he lost his captaincy following a trade request. The hostile environment initially favored the New York Rangers, who capitalized on an early power play when Sean Durzi struck from the high slot.

Despite the tumultuous atmosphere and a late push from the hosts that included a shot off the post by Anton Johansson, the Rangers secured the victory thanks to an empty-net insurance goal from Eeli Tolvanen.
