NAGOYA, Japan — Vithya Ramraj completed a remarkable Asian Games campaign with three medals in three events, becoming one of India's standout performers at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Ramraj's medal collection included gold, silver and bronze — a rare three-colour haul at a single Games. She began with silver in the mixed 4×400m relay, helping India clock 3:14.46.
She then produced one of the most significant individual performances of her campaign in the women's 400m hurdles. Ramraj clocked 54.75 seconds to win bronze and broke P.T. Usha's 42-year-old Indian national record of 55.42 seconds. She became the first Indian woman to break the 55-second barrier in the event.
Her biggest moment came in the women's 4×400m relay final. Running the anchor leg, Ramraj helped India win gold in 3:29.69, finishing ahead of Bahrain and China. The victory delivered India's first athletics gold of the Games.
The three medals — silver, bronze and gold — completed an exceptional campaign for the Indian quarter-miler. Her performance also gave her a medal of every colour at the same Asian Games.
Ramraj's achievement was built over years of training and came after a difficult journey in athletics. Her father, Ramraj, has spoken about the sacrifices made to support Vithya and her twin sister Nithya as they developed from district-level athletes into international competitors.
For Vithya Ramraj, Nagoya ended with three medals, a national record and an Asian Games athletics gold — a campaign that has firmly placed her among India's notable performers at these Games.
