Holding a 20-10 lead midway through the fourth quarter on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles appeared poised to close out Week 4. Instead, an aggressive gamble failed, the offense stalled completely, and the Los Angeles Rams rallied to claim a 24-20 victory.
The late surrender brought Philadelphia's systemic offensive dysfunction into sharp focus.
The turning point arrived during the fourth quarter when head coach Nick Sirianni bypassed a field goal attempt on fourth-and-goal. The ensuing pass fell incomplete, leaving points on the board and opening the door for Los Angeles to complete their comeback.
Sirianni later acknowledged that strategic and tactical flaws undermined the afternoon, pointing to coaching errors alongside mistakes in execution.
Philadelphia managed only 172 yards of total offense and a meager 68 net passing yards. The central issue was an inability to extend possessions: quarterback Jalen Hurts finished 0-for-12 on third down, pushing the team's conversion mark over the past two games to an alarming 2-of-21.
Hurts ran for 18 yards on five attempts, finishing as the third-leading rusher, but described the overall output as poor execution while searching for collective rhythm as a unit.
Already taking the field without wide receiver DeVonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert, and late scratch Lane Johnson, Philadelphia sustained immediate attrition in the backfield. Saquon Barkley departed in the opening quarter with a non-long-term hamstring injury, ending his day with eight rushing yards across two carries and a two-yard catch.
Replacement Tank Bigsby provided 55 yards on 14 attempts before suffering a fourth-quarter injury that requires core muscle surgery, placing him on injured reserve for at least four weeks with an earliest return date of November 8 against the New York Giants. Will Shipley closed the game with 23 yards on six attempts.
The margin for recovery is slim. Philadelphia travels to London in six days to face the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars, where Shipley could see expanded playing time if Barkley cannot suit up.
To keep their postseason ambitions intact, the Eagles must secure at least three victories over their next five contests leading into their Week 10 bye.
