Former NHL defenseman Brenden Morrow shared a lighthearted tale from his golf outing with professional golfer Gary Woodland, revealing an amusing mix-up that lasted an entire round. During their game at TPC Craig Ranch, Morrow repeatedly called Woodland 'Jerry'—despite the name 'Gary' clearly marked on his bag—with neither Woodland nor anyone else correcting him.
The mispronunciation persisted even after Woodland joined Morrow in his car, leading to a playful farewell where Morrow addressed him as 'Jerry' again. The story also resurfaces a long-standing bet between the two: Morrow wagered $10,000 that he would win the Stanley Cup before Woodland claimed a major championship.
Morrow lost the bet after falling short in the 2015 Cup Final with the Tampa Bay Lightning, while Woodland secured his victory at the 2019 U.S. Open four years later.
Though Morrow still owes the money, he’s proposed a creative alternative—hosting Woodland for a member-guest instead of paying the full amount.
