The Philadelphia Phillies have added experienced coaching talent to their staff by hiring former New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza as their third base and infield coach. Mendoza, who led the Mets for three seasons with a 206-199 record, was dismissed in June 2024 after a disappointing postseason exit in 2024 and an early collapse in 2026.
His tenure included a National League Championship Series appearance in his first year but saw the team falter in subsequent campaigns, including a 12-game losing streak in April 2026 that derailed their season. Before joining the Mets, Mendoza spent six years as a coach with the New York Yankees (2018–2023), bringing a wealth of big-league experience to his new role under Phillies manager Don Mattingly, who was named to a two-year deal earlier this week after finishing the 2026 season as an interim leader.
The Phillies reportedly explored multiple candidates for the managerial role, including Alex Cora, Raúl Ibáñez, and Chase Utley, before finalizing Mattingly’s appointment.
