South African cricketer Chad Laycock etched his name into history on Tuesday by becoming only the fourth bowler in men’s T20 cricket to claim five wickets in a single over. The 19-year-old sensation delivered the extraordinary feat during the CSA Pro20 Cup, representing KZN Inland against Titans in Pietermaritzburg.
Laycock’s over—featuring four consecutive wickets in five deliveries—culminated with a fifth dismissal, reducing Titans from 193/4 to a total of 204. His career-best figures of 6/26 also shattered the record for best bowling in CSA Pro20 Cup history, surpassing Beuran Hendricks’ previous mark of 6/29 set in 2014.
Despite his heroics, KZN Inland fell short, losing by 21 runs after falling just 21 runs short of the target. Laycock’s achievement joins an elite list, following similar feats by Al-Amin Hossain, Abhimanyu Mithun, and Gede Priandana, who remains the only bowler—male or female—to accomplish it in a T20 international.
