Former ESPN host Jason Whitlock reignited a brewing feud in college football by targeting Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders and offensive coordinator Brennan Marion after a postgame exchange. Whitlock shared a clip of Marion dismissing questions about the team’s struggling run game, calling his response arrogant and suggesting a clash of egos between him and Sanders.
The tension comes as Colorado, now at 2-3, has lost three straight games and seen its rushing attack stall, averaging just 140.8 yards per game—down from opening-season dominance with at least 180 yards in each of the first three contests. Recent performances, including 83 yards against Baylor and 78 against Texas Tech, have fueled skepticism despite Marion’s confidence in the system, which he framed as battle-tested from his time at Sacramento State and prior stops as a top-ranked rushing offense.
Marion’s sharp reply to a question about backfield management—where he brushed off concerns with a defensive tone—only amplified the narrative of a defensive stance amid underwhelming results. The Buffaloes’ top rusher, Micah Welch, leads with 218 yards, but the workload has been spread among four other backs, including Damian Henderson II, JaQuail Smith, Richard Young, and DeKalon Taylor.
Whitlock’s jab, framed as a critique of perceived arrogance, underscores the broader narrative of Colorado’s offensive struggles and the mounting pressure on Sanders’ program.
