The Atlanta Falcons’ defensive unit faces another challenge ahead of their Sunday showdown with the Chicago Bears, as cornerback C.J. Henderson remains sidelined with a groin injury and did not participate in Thursday’s practice.
Henderson’s absence adds to the Falcons’ defensive depth concerns, particularly at cornerback, where injuries have created gaps in the lineup. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
is expected to return to full action after practicing without restrictions, though he was forced to exit the team’s last game early due to rib discomfort. On the defensive side, edge rusher Za’Darius Smith is practicing on a limited basis following a neck injury and concussion suffered against the New Orleans Saints, while veteran tackle Jake Matthews continues his recovery from a groin issue.
The Bears, meanwhile, also contend with their own roster setbacks, including linebacker TJ Edwards and defensive lineman Grady Jarrett, both of whom did not practice due to hamstring and rest-related concerns, respectively. The Falcons’ offensive line, however, remains intact, with right tackle Jawaan Taylor returning to practice after resting earlier in the week.
