F1 reduces maximum distance of races by 15km

Formula 1 organizers have decided to shorten upcoming grands prix starting in the 2027 campaign, dropping the overall maximum span from 305km down to 290km. Governing authorities noted this adjustment accommodates shifting power unit ratios between internal combustion and electrical systems, addressing fuel capacity limitations for squads choosing to retain their current chassis.

Additionally, a firm cutoff time will supplant the standard three-hour limit during weather or crash delays to help ensure full competitive distances are completed.

The regulatory body also adjusted practice procedures to grant additional time when red flags halt sessions, matching the stoppage rules already utilized in qualifying and races. The newly established finish deadlines will adjust according to environmental conditions and local daylight hours at each circuit location, providing greater scheduling latitude for evening events compared to afternoon fixtures.
