Maryland football suffered a 45-16 loss on the road against fifth-ranked Ohio State, extending their current losing streak to four games. Defensive struggles continued to plague the program as they surrendered multiple long touchdowns, including a 68-yard pass from Julian Sayin to Nate Roberts.
Head coach Mike Locksley noted that eye control and leverage issues in the secondary contributed to the defensive lapses. Poor tackling compounded the team's difficulties, echoing previous performances against opponents like Virginia Tech and UConn.
The visiting squad allowed 34 chunk plays of fifteen yards or more over the course of the season so far. During the recent matchup, the Buckeyes accumulated seven such plays totaling 243 yards, with four resulting in scores.
A missed opportunity by Daniel Wingate and several teammates on a short pass to Jeffrey Overton Jr. resulted in a 49-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Locksley emphasized that the roster must improve at getting off blocks and executing tackles to turn their defensive execution around.
