Ex-Welsh first minister Jones joins Scarlets board

Carwyn Jones, the former Welsh first minister, has taken up a position on the board of the Scarlets. This appointment arrives as the governing body prepares to reduce the number of professional men's squads in the country from four down to three by the arrival of 2028, creating an intense rivalry between the Scarlets and the Ospreys to secure the single remaining spot designated for the western region.

Executive chairman Simon Muderack welcomed the addition of the seasoned public figure, whose background encompasses profound community insight and a dedication to the sport. Jones himself emphasized the necessity for logical reasoning, clear facts, open communication, and workable answers to navigate the current hurdles facing the domestic game.

Meanwhile, the club's administration already features Tonia Antoniazzi, who serves as the Labour parliamentary representative for Gower, alongside former rugby standouts Sean Fitzpatrick and Derek Quinnell.
