Essex County Cricket Club has terminated the contract of batter Robin Das following his suspension and subsequent court appearance in London. The 24-year-old faced two rape charges in connection with an incident from March 2024, with his trial set to begin in January 2028.
Das, who played just one first-class match for Essex this season—scoring 29 runs in a One-Day Cup game against Middlesex—was granted conditional bail after appearing at Inner London Crown Court on October 9. The club confirmed that his contract expired before the end of the 2026 season due to his unavailability, emphasizing that the decision was unrelated to the ongoing legal proceedings.
Essex reiterated its commitment to maintaining safeguarding standards and will continue collaborating with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) on player welfare matters.
