The No. 8 BYU Cougars handed Iowa State a 24-10 defeat in a Big 12 matchup Friday night, extending their unbeaten start to five wins.
BYU’s offense dominated early, with running back Journee Tonga breaking through for a touchdown on the Cougars’ opening drive, while quarterback Bear Bachmeier threw for 329 yards and a key 75-yard pass to Legend Glasker to extend the lead. Iowa State’s lone touchdown came from quarterback Jaylen Raynor, who completed 16 of 29 passes for 98 yards, with receivers Ty Claiborne, Tyler Fortenberry, and Omari Hayes each catching three balls.
The Cyclones’ only field goal, a 40-yarder by Kyle Konrardy, briefly cut the deficit before BYU sealed the win with a late 38-yard field goal by Matthias Dunn. Iowa State’s next game is a bye week before traveling to Arizona on October 24.
BYU’s defense stifled Iowa State’s offense, forcing a turnover on downs and limiting the Cyclones to just 10 points. The Cougars’ ground game proved decisive, with Tonga and Allen combining for a touchdown to keep BYU ahead throughout the game.
Iowa State’s offense struggled to find consistency, with Raynor’s touchdown pass coming as the Cyclones’ only bright spot in a tough loss.
