ESPN reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to hire Jason Kidd for ‘NBA Countdown’

Former Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd is reportedly in advanced negotiations to join ESPN’s NBA studio coverage, according to multiple reports. Kidd, who led the Mavericks to the 2023 NBA Finals before being dismissed in May after a 26-56 season, would fill the role vacated by Michael Malone, who left ESPN to become head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The move would reunite Kidd with the network after his five-year tenure with Dallas, where he earned over $40 million over four remaining years on his contract following the franchise’s playoff misses after trading Luka Dončić to the Lakers. If finalized, Kidd would join *NBA Countdown* alongside hosts Malika Andrews and analysts Brian Windhorst, Kendrick Perkins, and Michael Malone, alongside senior NBA insider Shams Charania.
