The Atlanta Dream’s historic WNBA Finals run faces an unexpected hurdle as they prepare to face the Golden State Valkyries. After clinching a 30-14 regular-season record and sweeping the Washington Mystics and New York Liberty in the playoffs, the Dream are poised for their first championship appearance since 2013.
However, a scheduling conflict has forced the team to abandon their new home, State Farm Arena, for their Finals home games. A concert and Hawks games have blocked access to the 17,000-seat venue for Games 3, 4, and potentially a decisive Game 6, leaving the Dream to host those contests at Gateway Center Arena—a venue with just 3,500 seats.
Angel Reese, the franchise’s breakout star, has already dominated the playoffs with averages of 18.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across five games, but the reduced fan capacity at Gateway Center could dampen the electric atmosphere the Dream would have enjoyed in their expanded home.
