The Philadelphia Eagles have placed running back Will Shipley on injured reserve following a Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shipley, who started the game, suffered a partial tear of his plantar fascia during the contest, ending his immediate availability.
The move means Shipley will miss the next four weeks of action, with the Eagles’ bye week in Week 10 pushing his earliest return to Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The injury compounds the Eagles’ backfield struggles, as Saquon Barkley remains sidelined with a hamstring issue and Tank Bigsby is also on IR.
With only Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele currently healthy in the backfield, the team has turned to practice-squad options Jaydon Blue and Ian Wheeler, while also signing Joe Milton III from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad to free up a roster spot.
The Eagles’ backfield depth has been tested this season, and Shipley’s placement on IR adds another layer of uncertainty. The team will need to rely on its remaining options to maintain offensive momentum while managing the injury list.
