The Oregon Ducks' offense collapsed in a 17-15 loss to UCLA on Saturday, leaving major questions about their quarterback situation heading into next week's showdown with Nebraska. With starter Dante Moore still unavailable, redshirt freshman Dylan Raiola took the field but managed just six completions on 19 attempts for 43 yards, throwing two interceptions and fumbling the ball.
After Raiola was replaced in the fourth quarter by third-stringer Brock Thomas, the Ducks staged a late rally, cutting UCLA's lead to one possession before falling short on a two-point conversion attempt. Despite the offensive struggles, Oregon's defense stepped up, forcing four turnovers—two interceptions and two fumbles—including a strong performance from linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei, who recorded two sacks and disrupted UCLA's passing game.
However, the Ducks' inability to capitalize on those turnovers ultimately sealed their fate, as they failed to convert on their final drive with under a minute remaining.
The Ducks' offensive line also faced scrutiny, particularly with star tight end Jamari Johnson seeing limited action, catching just one pass for six yards—a far cry from his seven-catch, 119-yard performance in the previous game. Running back Wayne Knight dominated for UCLA, rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown, while Oregon's defense struggled to contain him.
The loss raises concerns about Oregon's quarterback depth, as Raiola and Thomas both showed inconsistencies, leaving the Ducks in a precarious position if Moore remains sidelined.
