The No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns dropped their first game of the 2026 season on Saturday, falling 27-24 to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry.
Tate Sandell secured the upset victory for Oklahoma with a field goal as time expired, marking the Sooners' first win over Texas since 2023 and their first time defeating a top-ranked Longhorns squad. Arch Manning struggled in the final quarter, throwing an interception that resulted in a pick-six and another pass that set up the decisive kick.
Colin Simmons, the Longhorns' star pass rusher, attributed the defeat to internal errors, stating that only Texas could beat Texas. Despite the loss, the Sooners earned credit for executing key plays late in the game.
Both teams return to action next Saturday, with Oklahoma hosting Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. ET and Texas welcoming Florida at noon ET.
