Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek has locked up another young piece ahead of restricted free agency, securing defenseman Tristan Luneau to a massive six-year contract extension worth 43.2 million dollars. Although the blueliner has only appeared in 14 total NHL games across three seasons, the front office is betting heavily on his future development by getting ahead of a potential breakout.
Luneau made a strong impression at the close of the previous regular season against Nashville by finding the back of the net, and he is now slated to skate on the top defensive pairing alongside Jackson LaCombe to begin the upcoming campaign. The franchise has also recently retained Tim Washe on a long-term agreement as they move swiftly to secure their young core.
With several defensive departures and current injuries affecting the roster, Luneau finds himself facing the defining opportunity of his professional career as he prepares to shoulder heavy minutes in all situations.
