Angel Reese etched her name into WNBA Finals history despite the Atlanta Dream’s 68-64 defeat to the Golden State Valkyries in Game 1 at Chase Center. The 24-year-old center delivered a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double in her championship debut, becoming the youngest player ever to record a double-double as a center in Finals history.
Reese dominated early, scoring 11 points in the first quarter and leading Atlanta into the fourth with a commanding lead, but her production stalled in the second half, where she went scoreless on 0-of-3 shooting while committing five fouls. She attributed her struggles to a lack of aggression, vowing to adjust her approach for Game 2.
The Dream will look to rebound in San Francisco, where Reese’s improved play could turn the series in their favor.
