Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese has captured the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor for the current season, marking a franchise first. Alongside this individual accolade, the team successfully eliminated the Washington Mystics in a postseason sweep to advance to the semifinals round.
Reese topped the league in total rebounds and secured the third position in steals per contest, trailing her own teammates Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada. Despite receiving strong competition from candidates such as A'ja Wilson and Gabby Williams, Reese emerged as the recipient of the defensive award.
At just her third year in the league, she stands as the second-youngest recipient in history behind Brittney Griner, who achieved the feat at age 23 back in 2014. The group now prepares for a subsequent playoff series against the New York Liberty, who similarly swept the Minnesota Lynx in their opening playoff matchup.
