Football clubs missing players due to injuries picked up while representing their national teams can receive financial payouts under specific conditions. Governing body Fifa operates a club protection scheme that kicks in if an athlete is sidelined from training and matches for at least twenty-eight days.
Bruno Fernandes, Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak, Nico O'Reilly, Kai Havertz, Brian Brobbey, and Dan Ballard are among the Premier League competitors affected during the current September and October window, alongside French skipper Kylian Mbappe.
Payouts are calculated on a daily pro rata basis tied to the individual's salary, reaching up to twenty thousand five hundred forty-eight euros per day with an overall cap of seven and a half million euros per person for a maximum duration of one full year. The coverage window begins the moment an athlete departs their parent club's location for international duty and concludes either at midnight on the day they arrive back or forty-eight hours after leaving the national squad, whichever occurs first.
These disbursements apply strictly to base wages rather than contract bonuses or one-off payments.
