Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks drew a technical foul with 7:23 remaining in the first quarter of Monday's preseason opener against the Detroit Pistons. Brooks, who led the league with 17 technical fouls last season, was defending Pistons forward John Collins when he extended his forearm to make contact.
Collins grabbed Brooks by the throat, prompting referees and security to intervene after Collins also reached into Brooks' face while holding the ball.
The officials initially issued double technical fouls to both players, but a review resulted in a flagrant one penalty for Collins. Brooks subsequently split two free throws at the line. The Suns held a 68-50 lead at halftime of the contest, which marked Brooks' second season in Phoenix and Collins' first in Detroit.
