Did O'Neill get team selection wrong in Old Firm defeat?

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill faced heavy scrutiny following his side's 3-0 Premier Sports Cup quarter-final defeat against Rangers at Ibrox. Winger Sebastian Tounekti received a surprise start with Yang Hyun-jun away, but the Tunisian struggled immensely against right-back Dujon Sterling and was withdrawn at the interval after trailing 1-0.

Big-money recruit Haissem Hassan took his place without shifting the momentum, while central forward Kasper Hogh also failed to impress before being substituted after 64 minutes. Camilo Duran shifted wide to accommodate Hogh, only to be moved back into the middle and subsequently replaced by Shim Mheuka 13 minutes later.

Defensive reshuffles also drew criticism after the established central pairing of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty was dismantled. Kieran Tierney made his return at left-back, prompting Liam Scales to move into central defence alongside Carter-Vickers.

Between the posts, Wolves loanee Sam Johnstone made only his second appearance since March, preferred over Viljami Sinisalo despite the latter boasting four clean sheets across eight matches. Johnstone gifted an early opportunity to Kevin Kelsy and later required Scales to clear a Kim Min-su effort off the goal line during a difficult afternoon.
