De Zerbi 'was the key' - Fernandes on his Spurs switch and trophy ambitions

Following an eighty-five million pound move from West Ham United, midfielder Matheus Fernandes revealed that manager Roberto De Zerbi served as the primary reason behind choosing Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United also targeted the twenty-two-year-old Portuguese international after he contributed three goals and four assists in league play last season, but they could not match the transfer valuation.

Fernandes explained that personal discussions involving himself and his parents, alongside an admiration for De Zerbi's tactical philosophy, cemented his preference for the north London side.

Tottenham have endured a difficult opening to their Premier League campaign, capturing just one point across their first three fixtures prior to hosting Everton. Despite this slow start and external scrutiny, Fernandes maintains that competing alongside higher-caliber teammates will elevate his individual display and position the club to challenge for silverware.
