Former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has addressed claims made by Alex Pereira regarding his alleged support for the upcoming Ciryl Gane vs. Josh Hokit heavyweight title fight at UFC 334.
Pereira, who is set to face Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335, criticized the UFC’s decision to crown Gane and Hokit as the undisputed heavyweight champions, arguing that the promotion may have influenced public opinion to favor the matchup. He also questioned why Gane, previously considered a longshot, was suddenly positioned as a top contender.
Cormier, however, dismissed the accusations in a recent interview, clarifying that he had never been asked to promote the fight and expressed confusion over Pereira’s targeting of him. Despite the tension, Cormier praised Pereira as one of the best fighters in recent history, though he noted the inconsistency in the Brazilian’s public statements over time.
The heavyweight title bout between Gane and Hokit is scheduled to headline UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden on November 14, while Pereira’s clash with Pavlovich will take place at UFC 335.
