The Indianapolis Colts are exploring a high-profile return for franchise legend Peyton Manning, with reports indicating the team has already reached out to him following the firing of general manager Chris Ballard. According to Dan Patrick, the Colts are not only seeking Manning’s expertise but also discussing a potential role as general manager and partial ownership stake in the franchise.
This move would mark the first major hire by Jim Irsay’s daughters since they took over team ownership, reviving discussions that began years ago about bringing Manning back to Indianapolis in a leadership capacity. Manning’s name has circulated in NFL circles for nearly a decade, from ESPN’s failed attempts to recruit him for Monday Night Football in 2018 to reported ownership discussions during the Broncos’ sale in 2021, though no formal deal materialized at the time.
Instead, Manning has since built a successful media empire, including *The ManningCast*, which debuted in 2021 and remains a cornerstone of ESPN’s alternative broadcasting strategy, though its peak viewership has since declined from its inaugural season highs.
