Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning addressed a potential officiating error that may have played a role in his team’s 17-15 loss to No. 12 UCLA at Autzen Stadium, marking the Ducks’ first unranked season since 2022.
The controversy stems from a two-point conversion attempt late in the game, where a face mask penalty on UCLA linebacker Sammy Omosigho was called after a rushed play. Though the penalty moved the ball back to the half-yard line for the second attempt, the Big Ten later clarified that the spot should have been half the distance from the end of the initial run, not the original line of scrimmage—a rule the officiating crew initially misapplied.
Lanning dismissed the mistake as a factor in the loss but acknowledged it as an error that was later corrected by the conference. The Ducks’ late drive, capped by a Brock Thomas touchdown pass to Evan Stewart, ultimately fell short as UCLA held on for the win, their first at Autzen Stadium since 2004.
