Cubs' promising season comes to abrupt halt with Wild Card sweep by Padres

The Chicago Cubs saw their promising campaign come to a sudden end Wednesday night after suffering a 4-1 sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres in the National League Wild Card Series. Despite boasting a top-tier offense and defense alongside an MVP-caliber season from Pete Crow-Armstrong, the visitors struggled offensively.

Crow-Armstrong and Alex Bregman combined for no hits and eight strikeouts across two losses. Kevin Gausman pitched into the fourth inning for Chicago, while Daniel Palencia surrendered a decisive two-run home run to Gavin Sheets.

The Padres advance to Milwaukee for the National League Division Series.
