Crane moves Glamorgan towards safety against Surrey

Mason Crane produced an unbeaten, personal-record 114 to guide Glamorgan toward top-flight preservation against Surrey on the third day at the Kia Oval. The visitors, already in command following Leicestershire's earlier point sanction, posted 594 in their second innings after earlier being dismissed for 132, with Asa Tribe adding 155 and Timm Van der Gugten making 72.

Crane combined with Van der Gugten for a record eighth-wicket partnership of 129 versus Surrey, before putting on 98 alongside tailender Mir Hamza, while Surrey's Adam Thomas snared his eighth outfield catch of the fixture to match a county milestone alongside his 2-74.

Chasing a target of 612 runs, Surrey reached 177-2 at stumps to leave them 434 adrift with eight wickets in hand. After Ned Toole picked up two wickets to dismiss Surrey's openers, Ryan Patel crafted 82 not out and Ollie Pope contributed an unbeaten 58 to mount an ongoing third-wicket stand of 132.
