The Baseball Hall of Fame’s Contemporary Baseball Era Committee has revealed its eight candidates for the 2027 ballot, spotlighting a mix of managers and executives whose careers thrived after 1980. Among the nominees are four managers—Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, Joe Maddon, and Lou Piniella—each with a track record of postseason success.
Baker, a former outfielder turned manager, led five teams to the playoffs and claimed three pennants and a World Series title. Bochy, meanwhile, guided three different clubs to the postseason as a manager, while Maddon and Piniella also built notable playoff legacies.
The executive contingent includes Sandy Alderson, whose tenure as general manager of the Oakland Athletics culminated in a World Series victory, and later delivered multiple playoff appearances and a pennant with the New York Mets. Rounding out the list are Brian Sabean, Ted Turner, and Bill White, all of whom shaped franchises through strategic leadership.
The committee evaluates non-player candidates on an alternating basis, with this ballot focusing solely on managers, executives, and umpires who met strict eligibility criteria, including a minimum of 10 major-league seasons for managers and umpires or five years of retirement for executives.
