Texas edge defender Colin Simmons has etched his name atop the Longhorns record books following an official statistics revision from their recent 20-17 victory against Tennessee. A fourth-quarter defensive stop previously credited entirely to Hero Kanu was adjusted into a shared half-sack for both players, bringing Simmons' total for the contest to 5.5 and establishing a new single-game program benchmark.
That adjustment also propels the standout defender to the top of the national leaderboard with 7.5 total sacks on the campaign.
Alongside the historic milestone, Simmons drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for an excessive celebration during the opening half. Head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the infraction after the final whistle, acknowledging the emotional nature of the contest while emphasizing that such mistakes cannot be repeated.
Simmons later apologized for the sequence, noting that he got caught up in the moment.
